During daily life, a number of medical emergencies may occur that require immediate transfer to the hospital for treatment.
In the Kingdom of Bahrain, ambulance services are ready to respond 24 hours a day by calling the emergency number 999.
Ambulance teams handle cases that may develop serious complications if not treated promptly — which could even lead to death.
In non-emergency cases, the injured person can visit a doctor or go to the hospital using private transportation.
In situations that require immediate first aid, the following steps can be taken:
Bleeding
Bleeding is the loss of blood from the blood vessels.
How to Stop Minor Bleeding:
- Wear personal protective equipment (PPE).
-
Apply direct pressure to the wound using your hands after wearing gloves.

-
Use a sterile dressing (gauze) and press firmly on the wound.

- The bleeding should stop after a short period of time.
-
If the bleeding does not stop, place another dressing without removing the first one.

- Wrap a bandage around the wound using an appropriate size, ensuring that two fingers can pass between the bandage and the skin.

- If bleeding continues, call for an ambulance and apply a tourniquet.
How to Stop Severe Bleeding:

- Call emergency services at 999.
-
Expose the wound by cutting or removing clothing.

-
If there is severe bleeding from a limb, apply a tourniquet immediately, or if direct pressure fails to control the bleeding.

- Use the tourniquet according to the manufacturer’s instructions.
-
Do not forget to record the time when the tourniquet is applied.
